Vocational Education and Training

Bowral High School has an extensive vocational educational program which caters for learning and engagement of our students for now and into the future. 

Bowral High School's strategic plan recognises the importance of a broad curriculum offering a range of VET courses that develop students’ skills in industry-current workspaces.

Priority is placed on teacher professional development, maintaining industry currency, and meeting all RTO compliance.

Our focus is also maintaining industry-standard facilities and equipment in our learning areas:

  • a grant of $3000 to purchase and upgrade equipment for business services
  • over $7000 in upgrades to the Performing Arts Space (PAS) for our Entertainment classes
  • significant upgrades to meet industry standards for our Construction classes
  • students studying Hospitality are offered a simulated working environment through Café Bowral which also generates a small source of income. 

Courses offered

Our VET classes are:

  • are designed for all students
  • are offered to students in years 11 and 12
  • are dual-accredited and lead towards a Certificate II or III qualification
  • contribute to further studies at University or TAFE
  • allows students to acquire work-related skills and hands-on experience

 

Bowral High School offers five framework courses:

  • Hospitality – Food and Beverage – Certificate II
  • Construction – Certificate II
  • Entertainment – Certificate III
  • Business services – Certificate II
  • Sports Coaching – Certificate II

Work placement

Work placement is a mandatory component of any VET course with students required to complete 35 hours in Preliminary and 35 hours in HSC courses. Work placement is organised by the classroom teacher, the VET coordinator, and ISWLP (workplace provider). All placements are within the school term and have designated weeks to avoid disruptions with other courses.

VET at Bowral High School 

Within VET at Bowral High School we offer:

  • highly qualified teachers who have extensive industry experience
  • course information sessions and career guidance for parents and students
  • established links with organisations such as ISWLP, Careers Adviser

We also offer special events to support VET students such as:

  • Work Readiness Program
  • parent Information Evenings 
  • Year 10 subject selections 
  • ISWLP Training Awards, and
  • NSW State Training Awards
