Bowral High School students have achieved results of which to be proud in the 2015 NAPLAN testing. The students in Year 7 and Year 9 are to be congratulated for approaching the test with diligence, attention and application. The trend results in the last three years show consistent growth across literacy and numeracy.
In 2015 the results show:
- More than half of Year 7 students demonstrated better than expected growth. Students are expected to move up one band between year 5 and year 7.
- Year 9 students achieved growth greater than state average in all elements of the test, with more than 60% of students achieving better than expected growth.
- Year 9 reading, writing and numeracy results were particularly good. In reading average growth was 56.1 compared to the state average of 47.6, average writing growth was 40.5 at Bowral High while the state average growth was 22.3, and in numeracy students achieved an average growth of 55.9 compared to the state average 46.8.
- All Year 7 and Year 9 students were given an opportunity to prepare for the NAPLAN tests as English and Mathematics teachers teach the explicit skills from NAPLAN. Following practice NAPLAN tests students received feedback that allowed them to further develop their strengths.
- A small group of Year 9 students were identified from their Year 7 results as requiring more intensive preparation. These students received additional help in improving specific skills and were then able to approach the NAPLAN tests with confidence.
Any parents who have questions about their child's NAPLAN results should ring the school and speak to Paul Williams, Head Teacher English, or Kim Kelly, Head Teacher Mathematics. For information about the additional intensive help that was provided parents can speak to John Staats, Deputy Principal.
